1. [mention of suicide]

So after the Reichenbach Fall aired there were a load of reaction GIFs made. Obviously.

Some of these were GIFs of the moment Moriarty committed suicide. Some of these added text. The two I’ve seen are “Can’t Deal” flashing and “Surprise, motherfuckers!”

Look. As far as tasteless suicide jokes go, these don’t get much worse. I had a panic attack watching the episode because no one warned me, and while that’s unlikely to happen to me again, it’s not a three am that I like to be reminded of. And reactions worse than mine exist — suicide imagery is triggering, and it’s a fairly common trigger.

I know I’ve said all this before, but I found one in the Cabin Pressure tag today and I’m saying it again. I really don’t like seeing them.

If you think slapping “Can’t deal” over the image of a character committing suicide and using it as a reaction GIF is funny, you are acting like an asshole.

#ok yes there is racial inequality in sherlock #and a shitload of white privelege #I believe that’s what 221B Baker Towers is meant to address #so stop bitching about racial inequality in Sherlock #and just write some 221B Baker Towers stories#because at least with the latter you have control over who is represented #whereas with Sherlock you have none #deal with it

    wait what.

isn’t it troubling to ask people to go over to some other adaptation of Sherlock Holmes that’s specifically meant to be racially diverse? just because 221b baker towers exists doesn’t make the existence of racial problems in Sherlock okay.

Whitefang’s commentary. In terms of fandom critique, at least — because yes, the idea that anything is “just a show” is in fact, pretty dangerous. We make assumptions, generalizations, and so on based on what we see in the media, and it is incredibly important not to forget that. “Just a show” is no argument, and “you have no control over the media” is a pretty terrible argument for shutting up about the problems in a particular adaptation.

Sally always had the means to contact the Chief Superintendent and stop Sherlock: “An amateur detective given access to all sorts of classified information!”(said the Superintendent) Despite valid fears, and the knowledge she could stop him, Sally trusted Sherlock for years until real “evidence” was given against him. Spite and hate were never her motives. Ethics were.

I will reblog this every goddamned time it comes across my dash.
Yes, Sally was played.  But the very reason it worked was that she was a good cop with strong professional ethics.  It didn’t help that she didn’t like Sherlock on a personal level, but I like to think that even if she did, the end result would’ve been the same.  It might’ve taken more time, more evidence, but she would’ve gotten there.
Because she is a good cop, and she believes in facts and evidence.

Bless u. Bless u.

Yes. This. This needs to be on my blog.

Ack. You are making me want to ressurect the Second-War-Era Auror AU with Muggleborn Anderson [who showed up swearing in my head one day because what the fuck was a pureblood amateur doing here when they couldn’t be sure they could trust the people who had been vetted before the Ministry coup], and I thought I had killed that thing because trying to figure out what the Aurors were up to during the Second War gives me a headache.
Which, I realize, is only vaguely related to the actual headcanon, but dammit. Now I want to write it again.

  5. UGH. Moriarty shooting himself reaction GIFs are back on my dash.

No. Go away. I have said that those are really not fucking cool more than once and I really do not care if they’re reblogged or if you added them yourself.

Photoshopping “#Can’t deal” “#Fuck This” or “surprise, motherfuckers!” over a GIF of someone commiting suicide and then using it as a joke makes you an asshole.

    Stop using them.

    Thank you.

Dammit, now I really, really want this.

  7. taggianto:

The full set so far as requested by a very nice person (without Joke!Anderson)!

Oh. I really like these. Especially Moriarty’s and Mycroft’s.

    I can’t remember — do you watch BBC’s Sherlock? Because I have a couple of good OT3 fics in that fandom… .

I do, actually - currently going through AO3’s John/Sherlock/Lestrade section. So far they seem to be a bit better about not as much PWP than I usually find. :)

Only problem is, reading them is making me want more poly fic in general. I am such a sucker for it.

If you haven’t found it yet, I can really recommend impishtubist’s Variations on A Theme, which is probably my favorite. Jain’s Beginner’s Studies is fairly good [and entirely about working out the rules of the relationship]. Of Two Detectives and a Doctor is short and fluffy, but it’s definitely not PWP. Also thirdbird’s Triangulations series, which starts John/Lestrade but does work it’s way to OT3.

I’m afraid I don’t have fic for any other poly pairings, but if you haven’t found those you might enjoy them.

  9. [Image description: Series of four oval drawings. The first one depicts Sherlock as the Mad Hatter at a tea party with John as Alice, Sherlock passing John a cup of tea as John discovers the White Rabbit’s severed head. The second is Mycroft as Humpty Dumpty, falling off the wall as Lestrade as king rushes to catch him. The third is Mrs Hudson as Mother Goose by the fire. The last is Molly as Little Red Riding Hood, with Jim Moriarty lurking in the wooded background, the body of the Big Bad wolf extended behind him.]

About me

I'm another genderqueer asexual trans guy who lurks on tumblr often enough to get one. You'll see a lot about writing, some about sexuality and gender, and a lot about the publishing industry here, with occasional asides into fandom, mythology, and whatever else happens to strike my fancy. Tamora Pierce's work and the Arthurian Legends are probably my two biggest fandoms just now.

I'm kind of shy and it may take me a little while to answer/warm up to you, but I really do encourage any questions/errant thoughts/call outs you may want to put in my ask. I try to keep this a relatively safe space, so if you need any trigger warnings, let me know.
