1. [mention of suicide]

    So after the Reichenbach Fall aired there were a load of reaction GIFs made. Obviously.

    Some of these were GIFs of the moment Moriarty committed suicide. Some of these added text. The two I’ve seen are “Can’t Deal” flashing and “Surprise, motherfuckers!”

    Look. As far as tasteless suicide jokes go, these don’t get much worse. I had a panic attack watching the episode because no one warned me, and while that’s unlikely to happen to me again, it’s not a three am that I like to be reminded of. And reactions worse than mine exist — suicide imagery is triggering, and it’s a fairly common trigger.

    I know I’ve said all this before, but I found one in the Cabin Pressure tag today and I’m saying it again. I really don’t like seeing them.

    If you think slapping “Can’t deal” over the image of a character committing suicide and using it as a reaction GIF is funny, you are acting like an asshole.

    Whitefang’s commentary. In terms of fandom critique, at least — because yes, the idea that anything is “just a show” is in fact, pretty dangerous. We make assumptions, generalizations, and so on based on what we see in the media, and it is incredibly important not to forget that. “Just a show” is no argument, and “you have no control over the media” is a pretty terrible argument for shutting up about the problems in a particular adaptation.

Yes, Sally was played.  But the very reason it worked was that she was a good cop with strong professional ethics.  It didn’t help that she didn’t like Sherlock on a personal level, but I like to think that even if she did, the end result would’ve been the same.  It might’ve taken more time, more evidence, but she would’ve gotten there.     Photoshopping “#Can’t deal” “#Fuck This” or “surprise, motherfuckers!” over a GIF of someone commiting suicide and then using it as a joke makes you an asshole.

    I can’t remember — do you watch BBC’s Sherlock? Because I have a couple of good OT3 fics in that fandom… .

    I do, actually - currently going through AO3’s John/Sherlock/Lestrade section. So far they seem to be a bit better about not as much PWP than I usually find. :)

    Only problem is, reading them is making me want more poly fic in general. I am such a sucker for it.

    If you haven’t found it yet, I can really recommend impishtubist’s Variations on A Theme, which is probably my favorite. Jain’s Beginner’s Studies is fairly good [and entirely about working out the rules of the relationship]. Of Two Detectives and a Doctor is short and fluffy, but it’s definitely not PWP. Also thirdbird’s Triangulations series, which starts John/Lestrade but does work it’s way to OT3.

    I’m afraid I don’t have fic for any other poly pairings, but if you haven’t found those you might enjoy them.
